    Students and teachers from the Art of Dance studio will showcase their talents and delight crowds with Smooth Criminals, Acrobatic Monkeys, Funky Clowns, a little "Gaga" and more!
  • May 19 - Wild Edibles
    9:00 a.m. - Noon; Mike Krebill, vice president of the Prairie States Mushroom Club and a member in the National Wild Foods Association Hall of Fame, will take participants on a fascinating, mouth-watering exploration of Jefferson County Park. This workshop will involve identification of spring edibles and mushrooms, plant preparation, and sampling of wild foods, including some delicious dandelion dishes. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

    Meet at 7:30 a.m. at Jefferson County Park and head out along the back roads of Jefferson County and Van Buren County to find birds of pasture and fence row. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required. 
  • May 31 - June 3 - Transcending Sustainability Conference
    This conference will challenge you to develop and experience a deeper and fuller understanding of sustainability and to co-create a new vision for a world that does not yet exist.
    The New Academy is designed to help people meet the challenges of sustainability and to create a new and better world for the future – beyond sustainability. The 2012 Summer Institute is its inaugural event and those who attend will have an opportunity to help design its future. The theme of this year’s Summer Institute is transcending sustainability: principles and paradigms exploring deep sustainability. Conference Fee: $95

  • June 8 - Ballroom Dance Company
    7:30 pm; Championship formation dancing, breath-taking lifts and spins—all performed in a seemingly endless stream of shimmering costumes—no one does it better than the Ballroom Dance Company. The first Americans ever to win the prestigious British Formation Championships, a feat they have repeated an unprecedented ten times, the dancers have also competed in the World Formation Championships and have consistently earned top honors in the United States National Formation Championships.

    Cooks can compete in four categories: dessert, bread, meat/main dish, and a "mystery ingredient" meal. The public is invited to come and taste test!  Jefferson County Park
  • June 16 - All Things Italian Street Festival
    5-10pm  The Fairfield Square is transformed into an Italian Piazza. Taste homemade lasagna and fresh-filled cannoli! Visit large fresh fruit stand. Enjoy authentic Italian dance troupe, play bocce ball or visit local Madonnari street chalk artists, en plein aire artists and figure drawers or try your hand at hand-carving Italian marble. Named an Iowa "must see event".
    9am - 5pm  Daytime Talks, Tastings and Demonstrations 
    Beginning at the Saturday morning Farmer's Market with a Commedia dell' arte performance, the series of Italian events hosted by local businesses and throughout the Fairfield Square. Includes learning how to make a perfect espresso at home, taste Italian chocolates vs. chocolates of the world, learn how to cook like an Italian grandmother or score a soccer goal and win a slice of pizza.
